Treatment Approach and Methods......
My overall approach to helping clients is one of compassion with direct and authentic feedback designed to challenge unhealthy or unproductive ways of thinking and behaving, discover inner conflicts and personal characteristics that inhibit their wellness, and provide them with tangible strategies or tools for improving their health and their life. My approach is based on the notion that a certain level of discomfort is needed in order to precipitate change and I offer support and time for reflection as my clients experience the motivational discomfort needed to build a better way of life for themselves. I partner with my clients and do not see myself as an expert to provide advice, but as someone who can guide my clients through difficult self-reflection, cognitive and behavioral changes, spiritual reflection, commitment to healthier ways of living, and improved interpersonal communications and interactions, so that their lives are improved.
I believe your mental health is tied to all aspect of your life and I work to help clients find additional resources and paths that will help them overall in their lives. I also offer activity-based counseling that allows clients to enjoy counseling in various settings such as the outdoors. I am committed to working with clients who are at varying levels of motivation and difficulties. After an intake interview, I will suggest a plan for your counseling that takes into consideration the severity of issues and best approaches. I also tailor my interpersonal approach with clients to their communication style, personal values, or threshold for directness in my approach. I have clinical experience working with adolescent clients and I provide counseling solutions that specifically address their unique needs, motivation, and need for engagement and trust in the process.
The techniques I use are generally derived from clinically tested and sound approaches including Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral or Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I also provide psycho-educational opportunities for individuals or groups who are looking for coaching and training on interpersonal communication or wellness topics.
